IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

President Bush’s presence at the private fundraising event was hardly noticed. The camera had only 47 seconds to shoot the President with McCain and Mrs. McCain. Nonetheless, the event though short was delightfully satiating. The event gathered $3 million, which brings McCain’s total cash to $4.5 million. $1.5 million came from an earlier fundraiser he attended in Denver.

Bush will keep raising money by attending various events. Wednesday, he will join Mitt Romney in Utah at two events, while McCain is campaigning in Reno and Los Angeles.

Now that Obama feels certain he won the Democratic nomination, his true colors are coming out. Unable to match McCain’s military status he uses every means possible to discredit him. Of the private fundraising, he implied, “Today, John McCain is having a different kind of meeting. He’s holding a fundraiser with George Bush behind closed doors in Arizona. No cameras. No reporters. And we all know why. Senator McCain doesn’t want to be seen, hat in hand, with the president whose failed policies he promises to continue for another four years.”

To which, Tucker Bounds, of McCain’s campaign, quickly responded, Whether the issue is global climate change or urging a more effective strategy in Iraq, John McCain has had clear but respectful differences of opinion with the President. However, it isn’t surprising that Barack Obama is trying to disguise his own lack of depth and weak leadership on the issues with political generalizations and superficial attacks.

WHY IS IT OK FOR OBAMA TO ERR BUT NOT FOR CLINTON?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Yes, Obama couldn’t remember which concentration camp was liberated by the U.S. army and which one by the Russians. Yesterday, during a speech in North Las Vegas, Obama was stating his familys pride in the service of his grandfather and uncles during WWII. But he called out the wrong concentration camp when he alleged that his great-uncle was among the liberators of Auschwitz, when instead it was one of the sub-camps at Buchenwald. Yet the media didn’t make a hullabaloo of it as it did when Clinton made a mistake in relating her trip to Bosnia. Bottom line: from day one the media endorsed Obama. Long gone are the days when the media is supposed to be fair and objective. Sad!

RULING ON THE FLORIDA AND MICHIGAN DELEGATES

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

Hillary Clinton wants all the delegates from Michigan and Florida to be counted. “No way!” said the party lawyers. Their 38-page memo was sent to the 30 members of the party’s Rules and Bylaws Committee. Seating half the delegates is as far as it legally can go. However, now the committee is facing the problem of allocating these delegates; how many and to whom Obama withdrew his name from the Michigan ballot and didn’t have a choice in Florida.

The Saturday DNCs meeting is bound to bring a huge turn-out. Already 500 seats have been taken. Will it be a peaceful rally? It remains to be seen but security has been increased.

But what is the point of all this? Even though Clinton has won the majority in both states, it will not be enough to catch up with Obama’s delegate lead. So why all this brouhaha?
