IS ABOLITION OF THE FREEDOM OF SPEECH DEMOCRATS’ NEXT PLAN?
Monday, October 13th, 2008When Obama told his followers to “go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors,’ what happened is more than that. They started to jam phone lines (e.g.” WGN) and send hundreds of protesting emails when conservative Stanley Kurtz appeared on Milt Rosenberg’s WGN radio program in Chicago. It seems that Obama’s voters want to shut up each and everyone that criticize and make public true but embarrassing facts on Obama’s past and present connections. In other word they are trying to abolish the Freedom of Speech.
Some Obama supporters have even gone as far as threatening criminal prosecution under the “libel prosecution act.”
“In September, St. Louis County Circuit Attorney Bob McCulloch and St. Louis City Circuit Attorney Jennifer Joyce warned citizens that they would bring criminal libel prosecutions against anyone who made statements against Mr. Obama that were “false.” I had been under the impression that the Alien and Sedition Acts had gone out of existence in 1801-’02. Not so, apparently, in metropolitan St. Louis. Similarly, the Obama campaign called for a criminal investigation of the American Issues Project when it ran ads highlighting Mr. Obama’s ties to Mr. Ayers.”
One is not surprised at such threats because it is not the first time that liberals attempt to shut down political speech. Congressional Democrats have been trying to reimpose the “fairness doctrine” on broadcasters, until it was repelled in 1987. The reason is so obvious it is almost infantile: “to shut down the one conservative-leaning communications medium, talk radio.” We all know that liberal talk-shows have generally failed whereas the conservative ones have been quite successful and that is the sole reason many liberals can’t stand having the American people hear contrary views. So forget our “Freedom of Speech” if Obama wins and the Democrats increase their congressional majorities, rest assure that we’ll hear again about the “Fairness Doctrine.”
Another caveat to take seriously is the Democrats’ “card check” legislation “that would abolish secret ballot elections in determining whether employees are represented by unions.” Are we getting back to the 1930s where one resolved problems by threat? Are we going to be intimidated by thugs to force us to sign cards to “trigger unions’ victory?”
It’s not a science fiction hypothesis, it could sadly enough be history repeating itself if we allow liberals to suppress free speech.
